What can Family Memories by Heritage Studios digitise?

Family Memories by Heritage Studios digitises slides and loose prints up to 6x8 inches (15x20cm). We cannot digitise framed prints or images without copyright permission, including those by professional studios. Heritage Studios isn't liable for copyright infringement from digitising your material.

Does Heritage Studios require a minimum number of items for this service?

Yes, the minimum is 50 slides or prints, plus the cost of an appropriately sized USB for your files.

How should I prepare my memories for digitisation?

Our team will sort your materials by type and assign each item a sequence number. To help you get the most out of your collection, we suggest removing any images that don't evoke an emotional connection. You might also want to group images of the same format from the same event together. Where possible, we'll aim to retain this arrangement. Please also remove any images you don't own or don't have permission to digitise, including professional studio portraits.

Can I use this service if I'm outside of Auckland?

Currently, Family Memories by Heritage Studios is only available for those who can drop off and collect their material from our North Shore studio. We're actively looking into ways to expand this service to other regions. If you're interested, please get in touch — we'd love to hear from you.

How do I get my material to you?

Contact familymemories@heritagestudios.co.nz to receive a full information pack, including the link to our intake form. Once you have completed this, a member of our team will be in touch to arrange a suitable time for you to drop off your material at our studio.

Pricing & Payment:

Do I need to count my items before dropping them off?

No need to count! When we receive your material, our team will count everything and provide you with a fixed-price quote and estimated completion time. We'll start work once you accept the quote and pay a 25% deposit. Quotes are valid for 7 days from the date of issue.

When and how do I pay?

Once we've counted your items and you've accepted our quote, we require a 25% deposit upfront before we start digitising. The remaining balance must be paid in full before you collect your material and digital files.

The Digitisation Process:

Will you fix damage or restore my photos?

This service does not include advanced retouching, restoration of damage, or reconstruction of missing image areas. Colours will not be corrected for deterioration.

It is important to recognise that the quality of digitised images depends on the condition and quality of the original materials. We cannot guarantee that damaged, faded, or poor-quality originals will produce perfect digital images.

How will my digital files be named?

Your files will be organised by material type (slides, prints) with each item assigned a sequence number. We'll add a prefix (the first 3-4 letters of your surname) to help with identification. For example, using the surname Smith, your slides folder would contain: Smi_001, Smi_002, etc.

How can I tell if the digital files will meet my specific needs?

Check what our package includes on our home page. If you're still unsure, contact our team at familymemories@heritagestudios.co.nz – we're happy to discuss your requirements.

How will I receive my digital files?

We'll deliver your files on a USB, in line with our pricing. For security reasons, we're unable to accept client-provided USBs.

After Digitisation:

When will I collect my material?

When digitisation is complete, we will notify you by email. Please pay the remaining balance of your invoice before arranging a time with our team to collect your materials. Note that your materials and USB must be collected within 7 working days of receiving the completion notification. 

How should I care for my digital files once I receive them?
You'll get detailed instructions on how to care for your digital files along with your USB. Please follow these instructions carefully.

Will Heritage Studios keep a backup of my files?

We hold a copy of your digital files for one month after completion. After this period, you're responsible for backing up your files. We strongly advise you to follow the instructions on caring for your digital files provided with your USB.
